(Arnolds Park)-The Vintage Snowmobile Races are this coming weekend, KUOO”s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Okoboji Vintage Ice Drags will be held on Saturday on East Okoboji.
Co-Director Chris Duncan says the classic snowmobiles are built for racing on the ice. “They range anywhere from 1972 to 1982 and there’s different makes. There’s Arctic Cats, there’s Yamahas there’s Polaris, there’s Ski-Doos, some Mercuries. Everything that used to run here back in the day in late 70s and early 80s.”
He adds that the races will be held in front of The Ritz on Saturday. “Between the trestle and the bridge, there will be parking up there so you can get a good view from there and then I believe Coyote and Taylor at The Ritz, they’re gonna have the upstairs open so they can watch from inside, and then, of course, right along the race track. Free admission, the more the merrier, and there’s something new we’re doing this year. We’re gonna have a digital board that will be flashing our sponsors, and then during the race, what class is running and what the final is and then, who won that final. So, it’s going to be a little bit more informative. It’s going to be a great time, it’s something new so we hope the spectators and the racers will enjoy it.”
