(Spirit Lake)– KUOO news has learned of a new scam making the rounds in which people have reported getting calls from someone claiming to be with the Social Security Administration.
The caller states that your Social Security number is being cancelled and that you need to call a number to avoid that from happening. The person making the call is then asked to divulge personal information, including your Social Security number.
Again, officials say it’s a scam and that if you get such a call, you should NOT provide any information. Instead they say you should simply hang up and notify law enforcement.
A listener tells KUOO news she received two such calls today (Thursday) alone.
