An Investigation Is Underway Into A Fiery Crash In Marion County That Claimed The Life Of An Arnolds Park Man

January 23, 2020

(Des Moines)– Authorities are investigating after some improvised explosive devices, or IED’s, were recovered from a crash of a truck earlier this month near Knoxville, Iowa that claimed the life of an Arnolds Park man.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety says following an autopsy, the State Medical Examiner and Division of Criminal Investigation Criminalistics Laboratory identified the victim as Del Sorey of Arnolds Park. They say Sorey was the only person in the vehicle which caught on fire while he was driving it shortly after midnight January 12th. Most of the vehicle and its contents were destroyed in the blaze.

Authorities say search warrants related to the IED’s were executed Wednesday, January 15th at three addresses in Milford and Arnolds Park. A news release for the DPS doesn’t say what, if anything, the searches turned up.

Agencies involved in the ongoing investigation include the State Fire Marshal Division, Iowa State Patrol, Division of Criminal Investigation, Division of Intelligence, Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Milford, Arnolds Park and Okoboji Police Departments, the local drug task force, the Des Moines and Sioux City Office of the Bureau Of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Omaha Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
