Driver Of A Vehicle That Collided With A Pedestrian Last Month In Spirit Lake Pleads Not Guilty To A Charge In The Case

January 21, 2020

(Spirit Lake)– The driver of a vehicle that collided in December with a pedestrian on Peoria Avenue in Spirit Lake has pleaded not guilty to a charge that was filed against him in connection with the incident. 77-year-old James Stevens entered the plea last week in district court to a charge of serious injury by vehicle.

Authorities say he was driving a vehicle that careened out of control and collided with a pedestrian, a street light and some other items.

Stevens was also charged with driving while his license had been denied, suspended or canceled.

Authorities say Stevens was also driving a vehicle that collided with a house on 20th Street in Spirit Lake in July of last year. The house was torn down due to the extent of the damage.
