(Spencer)– A Spencer man faces multiple charges after holding authorities at bay Sunday and threatening occupants of a home with a gun.
Spencer police say officers were called shortly before 11:00 am to 7118 4th Avenue Southeast after getting a report of a domestic disturbance involving a man with a gun. Police arrived on the scene and determined the suspect, 21-year-old Dawson Walker of Spencer, had allegedly threatened the occupants of the home with a gun and was keeping them locked inside. Officers made entry into the residence and safely evacuated the occupants and removed the firearm. Authorities say Walker then armed himself with a butcher knife and a stand-off ensued. They say Walker eventually surrendered about an hour and-a-half later and exited the residence. He was taken into custody without incident.
Walker was charged with felon in possession of a firearm, domestic abuse assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, operation without the owner’s consent, false imprisonment and interference with official acts. He was booked into the Clay county jail.
Spencer police were assisted by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol, Spencer Fire Department and Spencer Ambulance.
