Health Officials Say They’re Now Seeing A Surge In Flu Cases

January 08, 2020

(Spirit Lake)– Health officials say flu activity has increased dramatically just in the past week or so, and that it’s now widespread in Iowa. Brandon Rohrig of Dickinson County Public Health told the Board of Supervisors Tuesday they’ve also been seeing an increase in flu cases locally…Rohrig & Flu Activity

“And it’s now completely around the state and we have a high amount of flu. It’s interesting how last week was the spike, so it went from not very much flu activity here in the state of Iowa to, yeah, it’s going up and will likely go up this week and next week.”

The Iowa Department of Public Health says there were 58 hospitalizations due to flu during the week that ended December 28th with two deaths. The agency says 700 Iowans tested positive for the flu virus, compared to 153 at this time last flu season.

Rohrig reminds everyone that if you’re not feeling well, you should stay home. He recommends frequent handwashing and sanitizing, especially if you’ve been somewhere such as the grocery store.
