(Spirit Lake)– Spirit Lake firefighters responded to a structure fire last (Mon.) evening. Fire Chief Pat Daly says they got the call shortly after 6:30 pm…Smoky fireplace01

“The address was 47055 710th Street, which is actually in Jackson county. Our fire district runs two miles into Minnesota, so we headed up there. When we got on the scene we did have smoke showing from the house. It was all right around the fireplace.”

Daly says the fireplace had failed, causing smoke to fill the house…Smoky fireplace02

“We cooled it down. It was a brick chimney, or brick fireplace, and we cooled all that down and they had a little smoke damage and a little water damage.”

Daly says one person was in the home at the time and safely got out. No injuries were reported.

He says it was another great example of several different agencies working together…Smoky fireplace03

“It was great that Lakefield had their ambulance standing by for us up there, Jackson county had two deputies on the scene, so. It’s kind of nice to work together.”

The Spirit Lake Fire Department was on the scene about two hours.
