(Undated)– The American Red Cross of Greater Iowa is now accepting nominations for its 2020 Heroes of the Heartland program. Regional Communications Director Caslon Hatch says it honors those who have performed an extraordinary act of courage or someone who has dedicated countless hours to a special cause…
“It could be someone who has jumped in in the middle of action to save someone’s life or who has dedicated their life to a cause to make our community better. We just really are trying to recognize those ordinary people that have done extraordinary things that might not be otherwise recognized elsewhere.”
The deadline to submit nominations is Tuesday, December 31st…
“They can go to our website, www.redcross.org-Iowa and there you’ll find a nomination form under our events section. It’s really easy. All you have to do is submit just a quick paragraph on what this person has done and why they deserve recognition and then maybe some evidence like if there was a newspaper article that may have been written about their actions or a facebook group or anything like that, and then they just hit submit. It’s very easy.”
Hatch says the awards will be presented at the annual Heartland Breakfast coming on in March in Des Moines…
“Usually we have other heroes from across the state that are also being honored there. The Governor comes and says a few words. It’s really just a fun, inspiring morning for people to recognize individuals that have done great things and maybe leave the breakfast a little bit inspired. So it’s really just a great morning for people to get together and hear some really awesome stories.”
This will mark the 20th year for that event.
