(Arnolds Park)– Some growing pains at city hall has the city of Arnolds Park looking at some possible options. Meeting in special session Wednesday evening, the city council decided to put together an exploratory committee to look at the current Okoboji Middle School facility to see if moving city offices to that location could be feasible. Councilman Matt Richter…
“And this is one of those where if the middle school property is not what we’re looking for, then we’re going to have to add on to the space. Over the last couple of years the city has actually acquired property to the east, the three lots to the east. When those came up for sale we purchased those because we knew some day city hall is going to have to go that way. Well then all of a sudden, as councilman Adams said, some constituents brought it up that, you know, the city should look at that property and so now we’re just going to take a look at it, see what we find out, and go from there.”
Richter says once the committee comes back with a recommendation, the council will be prepared to make some decisions…
“After the group comes back to say hey, here’s what we found out, then we can take a look at what’s going to happen to this property, what’s going to happen to that, so. I guess the biggest thing to say is to be continued.”
The Arnolds Park City Hall has been in its current location since 1997. Prior to that it was located in what is now the Amy’s Sign Design building on West Broadway Avenue.
The Okoboji School Board has not yet announced when it plans to put the Middle School property up for sale. The district’s voters earlier this month approved a measure requiring the district to sell the property to the highest bidder.
