(Estherville)-Hundreds of area students will be taking part in the Iowa Lakes Jazz Festival this week, KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
Iowa Lakes Community College will host their 29th Annual Jazz Festival on October 31.
Instrumental Music Professor Carol Ayres says the students will work with professional musicians throughout the day. “We have 12 highs schools and middle schools showing up, over 300 students, to take advantage of our 3 incredible professional musicians we bring in. We’re going to start at 9 o’clock with those students, have a concert featuring the 3 musicians. They would be Tony Gulizia on piano and voice, Joey Gulizia on drums and Andy Hall on bass. Then at 10 o’clock they break into workshops and at 1 o’clock we start with the high school clinics.”
She notes that the day culminates in the Jazz Festival Concert. “At 7 o’clock our concert will start in the gym, and it will feature The Vocal Jazz with The Jazz Trio, our Jazz Band with The Jazz Trio and then The jazz Trio will perform by themselves. So, it’s a full day of music.”
Admission to the concert is $5 for adults, students are free.
