ILCC Aviation Student Escapes Serious Injury After Making An Emergency Landing

October 26, 2019

(Bancroft)– A student in the aviation program at Iowa Lakes Community College escaped serious injury Thursday evening after making an emergency landing on a rural Kossuth county gravel road near Bancroft.

Tim Busch, Chief Flight Instructor for the college, says he was in the air at the same time as the student in a different plane. He commended the student, who’s name wasn’t released, for getting the plane down and avoiding serious injury.

Busch says the plane had experienced no issues in recent flights and was current with maintenance requirements. The plane reportedly lost engine power.

The student was completing a solo, cross-country flight when the incident occurred.

The student was taken to an Algona hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The Federal Aviation Administration was on-site Friday to investigate the incident.
