(Estherville)-The Heartland Honor Choir will perform on Thursday evening, KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
Eight area high school choirs are joining forces to create the Heartland Honor Choir, which will be hosted by Iowa Lakes Community College.
Vocal Music Professor Brett Fuelberth says, over 160 singers will be featured in the Choir. “We have schools Alta-Aurelia, Algona, Estherville Lincoln Central, Graettinger-Terril,/Ruthven-Ayshire, Okoboji, Pocahontas, South O’Brien and Spirit Lake are all bringing students to make this mass choir for the day. It’s great for the students because it gives them a chance to sing in a large group this big, and obviously, it’s great for the audience, anyone who wants to come to the concert to hear what they’ve worked on all day, and just to hear this amazing sound.”
He adds that the Honor Choir will be conducted by a special guest. “Each year, we bring somebody different in, and this year we’re really excited to have Dr. Ryan Person, who is the Director of Choral Activities at Morningside College in Sioux City. He’s chosen the music that we’re going to sing, and then he’s going to work with the singers all day and then conduct the concert that evening.”
The concert will begin at 6 o’clock Thursday evening at the Estherville Campus gymnasium. The Iowa Lakes Chamber Choir and Men’s Ensemble will also be featured at the concert.
Tickets are $5 for adults, students can attend for free.
