O’Brien County Collision Sends Three People To The Hospital

October 22, 2019

(Hartley)– A two-vehicle collision late Monday afternoon at the intersection of 360th Street and Vine Avenue in O’Brien county resulted in multiple injuries.

The Iowa State Patrol says 51-year-old Jeffrey Sauter of Jackson, Minnesota was driving a 2018 Dodge Ram westbound and had stopped for a stop sign when he pulled into the path of a 2003 Buick driven by 72-year-old Sharon Maaland of Hartley. Troopers say both vehicles came to rest in the ditch and that there was a small electrical fire in Maaland’s vehicle that was quickly extinguished by a passerby. Airbags in both vehicles had deployed.

Maaland was taken by ambulance to the Sheldon hospital. A passenger in her vehicle, Irvin Maaland of Hartley, along with Sauter, were taken by ambulance to the Primghar hospital.

Hartley Fire and Rescue, Sutherland Fire and Rescue and the Hartley and Sutherland ambulances assisted on the scene.

The collision took place around 5:20 pm.
