(Spirit Lake)– The time line to extend sanitary sewer service along the south side of Center Lake is being revised. Steve Anderson, Superintendent of the Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary District tells KUOO news they’ve had to re-bid the piping portion of the project…
“It basically is due to the buds that came in were well above what the engineer’s estimates were and so we’re in the process of re-bidding all that stuff out in smaller packages and hoping to get some better pricing and get the project going. This piping system is for the new force main for the Hayward’s Bay lift station.“
Anderson says bids for a new lift station at Haywards Bay, were received last week and came in slightly below the engineer’s estimate. He says the Sanitary District trustees will act on those at their meeting next week.
Anderson says they still plan to start construction on that part of the project in early January with completion in roughly a year or so from now. He says work on the second phase likely won’t get started until 2021.
“It’s tough with our area because we try to do everything as much as we can so we don’t interfere with the tourism and businesses and all of that stuff and so trying to get it in that tight window we’re not going to impact people significantly is always tough.”
Anderson say they’re also closely working with the county, D.O.T, and others who have jurisdiction along the route of the project.
