Okoboji Foundation Youth In Philanthropy Program Up & Running For Another Year

October 17, 2019

(Arnolds Park)– The Okoboji Foundation’s Youth In Philanthropy program is off and running for another year. Rob Waterhouse of the Okoboji Foundation tells KUOO news this marks the 10th year for Youth in Philanthropy…2019 YIP01

“We’re very proud of the fact that these students have raised $342,000 during that 10 year period and we’ve given out 24 grants to 19 different non profit organizations here in the community and a total of 137 students have been involved with this program since it began, and we’re just very, very proud of them and very proud of the impact that makes here in the Iowa Great Lakes.”

Waterhouse says the students raise their own money from which grants from Youth In Philanthropy are awarded…2019 YIP02

“The students, what they do is they ask their family, their friends, perhaps their parents own a business. It’s just good old fashioned sharing the vision that they have about making our community better and asking people to support it. The people that do support the Youth in Philanthropy program, they don’t have to buy anything or do anything of that sort, it’s just strictly a straight out donation and we take gifts of all sizes, anything from a dollar to $10,000. It’s just wonderful how people step up and really support this program.”

Waterhouse says 27 students from the Okoboji and Spirit Lake high schools are involved in this year’s Youth In Philanthropy program. Students apply for the program and are then selected through a process.

Contributions for the Youth In Philanthropy program may be mailed to the Okoboji Foundation at P.O. Box 593, Okoboji…51355.
