(Spirit Lake)– After numerous delays, work on the Marble Beach Campground on the west side of Big Spirit Lake is finally starting to wind down. That word from Frank Rickerl, Northwest Parks District Supervisor for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources…
“Everything’s kind of in its final stages. I know they started seeding some areas and it should be open by spring of next year.”
Rickerl says they originally intended to have the campground open this past summer, but ongoing delays didn’t make that possible…
“Mother Nature was not very kind to us up there. It seemed like we’d have a couple of weeks where the contractor could some good work and then we’d have three weeks of rain or drying periods where we couldn’t get anything done up there. It’s been a long haul for a project we thought would be finished six to eight months ago. It’s been taking it’s time.”
The campground was closed the past two summers because of the ongoing work, which included new water and sewer lines, new camp pads, remodeling of an existing shower building and construction of a new shower/restroom facility near the boat ramp, along with reconstruction of roads through the campground.
Rickerl says newly renovated Marble Beach Campground is now scheduled to open this coming May 1st.
