Elderbridge Agency On Aging To Hold Caregiver Conference In Arnolds Park

September 23, 2019

(Arnolds Park)– A free caregiver conference this Thursday (Sept. 26th) at Calvary United Methodist Church in Arnolds Park. Angie Perez is with Elderbridge Agency On Aging, which is putting on the event. She says it will begin at 9:00 am that morning with registration and a continental breakfast. She says the presentations will begin at 9:30 am with the first speaker being Dr. James Coyle…Caregiver Conference01

“He will be talking about compassion fatigue and how to deal with that, and some tips on how to combat that. So he’ll be giving some strategies, signs on how to recognize that you’re suffering from compassion fatigue and sometimes caregivers don’t even realize that they’ve got their own stressers going on so, he’ll be talking about that.”

That will be followed by a complimentary lunch at 12 Noon honoring centenarians from the area…Caregiver Conference02

“Some folks from the Department on Aging for the state of Iowa will be coming to present a certificate to them honoring them, and their certificate signed by our Governor of the state, so there will be that during lunch, and then in the afternoon we’ll be having a presentation by Ethan Huizenga which is a local attorney who is going to be having a very informative conversation on all things regarding elder law. Estate planning, some tax tips, things that we don’t typically think about as we get older with regards to the law and how to protect yourself and how to take care of wills and trusts and all that stuff.”

Perez says some resource providers will also be on hand…Caregiver Conference03

“We’re limited on space but there will be some there offering their resources. Again just for caregivers in the area that aren’t aware that these resources exist so they can meet the individuals representing them and gather some information on what they have to offer.”

Thursday’s event is free but those planning to attend are asked to sign up in advance by calling Elderbridge Agency on Aging at 800-243-0678.
