Everly Teen Seriously Injured In Car/Semi Accident

(Everly)– An Everly teenager was seriously injured in a car/semi accident this (Tues.) morning in Clay county.

The Sheriff’s Office says the mishap took place shortly after 8:00 a.m. at the intersection of 150th Avenue and Highway 18 northeast of Everly.

14-year-old Mackenzie Kay Menke of Everly was southbound on 150th Avenue when she ran a stop sign and was struck by a semi truck on the passenger side of her 1992 Chevy Lumina. Both vehicles went into the ditch, the semi landed on its side in the south ditch.

The driver of the truck, 62-year-old Larry Kramer of spencer, wasn’t injured. Menke was taken by ambulance to Spencer Municipal Hospital with numerous injuries. She was later airlifted to McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Hospital officials aren’t releasing any information about her condition.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Iowa State Patrol, the Iowa Department of Transportation and the Everly First Responders.
