(Spirit Lake)– A 70 million dollar reduction in funding to cities and counties adopted in the last session of the Iowa legislature had the Spirit Lake City Council Tuesday evening revisiting the current fiscal year’s budget.
Spirit Lake’s share of the cuts amounts to 70-thousand dollars.
Council members last evening approved a list of cuts recommended by the city’s Administrative Committee. They include a 39-thousand dollar reduction in equipment expenses; five thousand in youth ativities and parks; and six thousand dollars that had been originally budgeted to re-shingle a shelter house at Johnny Jahn Park. Committee member and councilman Pat McNorton says the city is banking on increased revenue to come up with the remaining 20-thousand.
The council voted unanimously to accept the recommended cuts.
