Spencer Police Discover Meth Lab In Storage Unit

November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– Quick thinking by a Spencer police officer over the weekend led to a meth bust in a storage unit.

Spencer police have arrested 28-year-old Robert Ryker of Spencer and 23-year-old April Brown of Humboldt after a search warrant was executed on their storage unit in Spencer Saturday.

While on patrol Saturday night, a police officer observed Brown coming out of the storage unit at 120 12th Street southwest. When the officer went to talk with Brown, he noticed a strong odor of ether coming from the shed. Ether is a key ingredient used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.

Inside the shed, the officer found Ryker and a meth lab.

The State Fire Marshall’s office and Spencer Fire Department were called to the scene in the event of a possible explosion.

A further search of the shed turned up more meth precursors.

Ryker and Brown have been charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, a class “B” felony; and possession of methamphetamine with the intent to deliver, also a class “B” felony.

Both were placed in the Clay county jail with bonds of 132-thousand dollars each.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Attorney’s Office assisted with the investigation.
