Okoboji Council Signs Off On Strongly Worded Letter To Corridor of Opportunity

November 23, 2014

(Okoboji)– The Okoboji city council is sounding off on the possibility of a local economic development group getting involved in the gambling controversy.

The council voted unanimously Tuesday to send a strongly worded letter to the Corridor of Opportunity saying the organization shouldn’t even THINK of taking a stance on the issue.

The Corridor of Opportunity has sent letters to cities and the county asking if they should take a stance, and if they do, what side they should take.

The letter, written by Mayor Bob Schneider, says it’s a Dickinson county issue and an organization that has members in Clay county shouldn’t be getting involved. The letter also states “to stretch the (corridor’s) mission to include gambling will certainly force the city of Okoboji to withdraw any future support of the Corridor”.

Representatives of the Corridor of Opportunity weren’t present at Tuesday’s meeting.

All five Okoboji City Council members signed off on the letter.
