Finishing Touches Put On Dickinson Co. Courthouse Proposal

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Efforts leading up to a September 30th bond issue referendum on a new Dickinson county courthouse are about to enter a new phase.

Allen Oberlander of the RDG Bussard-Dikis architectural firm says he’s putting the finishing touches on plans and drawings for the project. Finalized drawings will be sent to the supervisors in the next day or so. From there, Oberlander says the ball will be in the supervisor’s court. They’ll appoint a committee to promote the 14.9 million dollar measure.

The plans call for a new courthouse on the existing site. It would house the Sheriff’s Office, jail, Auditor, Recorder, Treasurer, Assessor, Veteran’s Affairs offices, board of supervisors meeting room, court services, County Attorney, human services, County Engineer and Planning and Zoning. The new building would also include an unfinished basement and additional space for future growth. The tower on the northeast side of the 1891 building would be replicated.
