Spirit Lake Tightens Restrictions On Buildings Moved Into or Within City

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Any buildings being moved into or within the city limits of Spirit Lake will now have to meet the city’s building and property management code under a new ordinance adopted by the city council Tuesday.

Public Works Director Todd Dolphin says the structures would have to have adequate painting, shingles, windows and so on. They would also have to meet code on plumbing, heating and electrical wiring.

Dolphin says the issue hasn’t been a huge problem in the past for the city. He says the new ordinance is intended to keep it that way.

The council also unanimously adopted an amendment to city code imposing a two-hour parking restriction in the downtown area. Prior to the vote council member Barb Ricke said she had heard some concern over the proposal from some business owners who have patrons that could be in their place of business for longer than two hours. She says one of those was a hair salon.
