Local Lake Makes National Organization’s Watch List

November 23, 2014

(Washington, D.C.)– A local lake is on a national organization’s watch list.

The National Fish Habitat Action Plan has selected Diamond Lake in Dickinson county as one of its 10 “Waters to Watch” for 2010.

The list consists of various rivers, streams, lakes, watershed systems and shores that have undergone conservation efforts.

Ducks Unlimited, the Dickinson County Cleanwater Alliance and various divisions of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources partnered in the Diamond Lake restoration project that began in the winter of 2006-’07. The 166-acre lake was drawn down and rough fish were removed to allow for the germination of aquatic plants and consolidation of bottom sediments. A fish barrier to keep rough fish out of the lake was also installed.

The lake has since been restocked and will be completely refilled this year.
