Gas Prices Continue To Increase As Summer Winds Down

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Summer may be winding down, but you sure can’t tell it by looking at gasoline prices. They’re at their highest levels of the entire summer. In many cases they haven’t been this high in atleast a year.

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in the Iowa Great Lakes has soared to $1.69.

Gail Weinholzer of Triple A Minnesota/Iowa says the increase can be attributed to several factors including the ongoing unrest in Iraq, last week’s electrical blackout in the northeast that shutdown several distribution facilities; the broken pipeline in Arizona; and the possibility of OPEC voting next month to cut back on production.

Weinholzer says prices should stablize or perhaps even drop a little once demand decreases after the busy summer driving season. But she says if the previously mentioned factors continue or get worse, the prices could continue to increase.
