Palo Alto County Conducts Cell Phone Survey

November 22, 2014

(Emmetsburg)– Residents of Palo Alto county can expect a phone call this week about cell phones and whether or not to move forward with plans for a system that would have the location of an emergency reported by the phones displayed when they call 911.

Sheriff Russ Jergens says Palo Alto county 911 dispatchers, sheriff’s deputies and Emergency Management personnel will conduct the survey.

Jergens says the effort is being sponsored by the Iowa Association of Public Communications Safety Officers, the State of Iowa E911 Council and the Palo Alto County Communications Center to determine if Iowans want to move forward with the technology.

Currently about half of the calls to 911 centers in Iowa are made from cell phones that do not show 911 dispatchers their locations.

Jergens says none of the information gathered in this week’s survey will be sold or used for any other purpose, and no salesman will contact you.

He says the survey will consist of about 10 questions.

Anyone with questions should contact Jergens at 852-3535 or Palo Alto County Emergency Management Coordinator Jarrett Lee at 852-4997.
