(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson county supervisors are hearing more and more requests for more and more space in the new courthouse.
The requests are picking up steam as planning for the new 14.9 million dollar facility kicks into high gear.
Most of the 63,500-square feet of space in the new facility is already spoken for. And it was reported at Tuesday’s board of supervisors meeting requests for additional office space continue to come in.
Reference was made to a letter from County Engineer Dan Eckert stating his department would be willing to stay where it’s at if there isn’t enough space in the new courthouse. That drew a sharp response from Supervisor Paul Johnson, who said he would be adamant to deliver on what the voters approved–a facility putting all county offices under one roof.
Supervisor Chairman David Gottsche questioned where the parking would go if the Engineer/Planning and Zoning building stays. That building, along with a former gas station, laundromat and County Attorney’s Office, are slated for demolition to make way for a parking lot once the new courthouse is completed.
Al Oberlander of the R-D-G Architectural Firm will be contacted about the additional requests for office space.
