(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council Tuesday approved several engineering agreements for upcoming projects being proposed.
The first, in the amount of 32,260-dollars, allows Beck Engineering to draw up plans to extend Zenith Avenue from Boysen Berries south to 35th Street and to extend 35th Street from Hawthorn Park to the intersection with Bergquist Avenue; and to design underground utilities in that same area.
Another agreement with Beck Engineering, for 12,300-dollars, is for plans to extend Enterprise Avenue north from where it currently ends near Forbes Meats and Processing to the south edge of the Polaris parking lot. The project would require the acquisition of land in the Center Lake Village trailer park.
Another engineering agreement, in the amount of 19,900-dollars, was awarded to the Howard R. Greene firm to draw up plans to beautify the Highway nine and 71 south intersection.
The council also approved entering into a 28E Agreement to join the Opportunity is Calling Committee’s study into the feasibility of a municipal telecommunications utility. They also voted four-to-one to appoint Pat McNorton as the city’s representative on the committee. Council member Barb Ricke cast the no vote, saying the appointment should be delayed until after the first of the year, when the new council will be seated. Councilman Terry Yarns was among those voting in favor of appointing McNorton. He feels it’s important the city have a representative that’s well-versed on the issue and has been involved in it from the beginning.
