Clay Co. Jury Finds Duncan Guilty Of 1st Degree Murder

(Spencer)– A Clay county jury has found Harold Duncan guilty of first degree murder in the death of his wife.

The jury of eight women and four men returned their verdict this (Friday) afternoon after about two hours of deliberation.

The 72-year-old Duncan shot his wife, 62-year-old Karen “Kay” Duncan January 12th, 2003 at the couple’s mobile home in Spencer. Duncan shot his wife twice with a 12 gauge shotgun, then turned the gun on himself in an unsuccessful suicide attempt.

Prosecuting attorney Mike Houchins was pleased with the verdict, saying the case was very difficult and that it affected a lot of people.

Duncan faces a mandatory of life in prison without parole when he’s sentenced at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 12th.
