Spencer Vows To Crack Down On Nuisances

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– The city of Spencer is vowing to get tough on those who don’t abide by the city’s nuisance ordinance.

The city council Monday adopted an “action plan” targeted at those who aren’t in compliance.

City Manager Dean Torreson says the council has requested a monthly report from the Police Department on the status of inoperable vehicles. He says they’re also requesting such vehicles be towed instead of just siting the owner with a municipal infraction.

Torreson says notices will also be sent to owners whose properties are in need of paint and/or siding. Torreson estimates there are currently 250 such properties in Spencer. Torreson says certified letters will go out to those property owners over the next two or three weeks. He says they’ll be given until December 1st, 2004 to address the matter.

Torreson says an appeal process will be available to those who get the letters.

Those who don’t comply with the order will receive a municipal infraction and will have to appear before a county magistrate. The magistrate will decide if the order should stand, and if so, will determine the amount of the fine and set a date for compliance.
