November 22, 2014

(Emmetsburg)– A Windom, Minnesota woman has been arrested for allegedly helping her son break out of the Palo Alto county jail earlier this month.

Sheriff Russ Jergens says 35-year-old Alexis Simich has been charged with aiding and abetting for allegedly helping her son, 18-year-old Jeremy Simich, try to flee the state to avoid prosecution.

Alexis Simich is being held in the Palo Alto county jail on bond of nearly seven thousand dollars.

Jeremy Simich broke out of the Palo Alto county jail around 9:30 p.m. February 2nd by allegedly crawling through a window. He was taken back into custody around 2:30 a.m. the next day. It’s alleged his mother picked him up and drove him to Minnesota.

Jeremy Simich was originally being held on charges of second degree theft and second degree criminal mischief in connection with the theft of a vehicle in September of 2003 owned by Jensvold Motor Company in Emmetsburg.

Additional charges of escape from custody, fleeing the state to avoid prosecution and fourth degree criminal mischief were filed against Jeremy Simich in connection with the jail break.
