(Rolfe)– A northwest Iowa school has been deemed unsafe by fire inspectors.
The Pocahontas Area Middle School in Rolfe was cited by the State Fire Marshall for some brick walls on the southwest side of the building that are crumbling. In some places, bricks are actually falling off the 87-year-old building.
Classes were moved from that part of the building Wednesday and were held in the gym. They’ll be held there again today. There’s no school Friday in the Pocahontas district. Superintendent Michael Wright says the 190 Middle School students will be moved elsewhere Monday…probably to Pocahontas.
Wright isn’t sure how long it will take to make the necessary repairs or how much they’re going to cost.
About 190 students in sixth through eighth grades attend the Pocahontas Area Middle School.
