(Spirit Lake)– Charges have been filed against a rural Jackson, Minnesota man in connection with some soybeans reported missing from a Spirit Lake elevator.
Police say they received a report Tuesday about a substantial amount of soybeans missing from the Farmer’s Co-op Elevator on Memphis Avenue in Spirit Lake. Upon investigating, Spirit Lake police and deputies with the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office discovered that a person had sold about the same amount of beans to the Great Lakes Elevator in Superior the same day as the beans were reported missing from the Spirit Lake elevator.
The suspect, 35-year-old Delane Hendricks of rural Jackson, was arrested later Tuesday morning near the Superior elevator as he returned to receive payment for the stolen soybeans.
Hendricks was booked into the Dickinson county jail on charges of third degree burglary and second degree theft…both class “D” felonies.
Authorities executed a search warrant on Hendricks’ farm Tuesday afternoon in connection with the investigation. They aren’t saying what, if anything was turned up.
In addition, Spirit Lake police Wednesday executed a search warrant on Hendricks’ vehicle, which was impounded upon his arrest. In addition to recovering evidence pertinent to the investigation, police say they also found some marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Hendricks had already made a court appearance on the earlier charges and was released from jail. He was arrested again this (Thurs.) morning by Spirit Lake police on the drug charges when he came back to get his vehicle out of impound. Hendricks was booked into the Dickinson county jail on new charges of possession of a controlled substance…marijuana…a serious misdemeanor; possession of drug paraphernalia…a simple misdemeanor; and prohibited acts…an aggravated misdemeanor.
