(Undated)– About 35 acres of grass went up in smoke Wednesday evening south of Lake Park.
Lake Park Fire Chief Al Detlefson tells KUOO news his department was called to a grass fire about a mile south of Highway nine on county road M-34 around 9:00 p.m.
Detlefson says a farmer was conducting a controlled burn when the wind suddenly switched, causing the fire to go where it wasn’t supposed to. It quickly spread to a slough area. Detlefson says that made it difficult for firefighters to get at.
No buildings were threatened and no injuries were reported.
The Lake Park Fire Department was on the scene about two hours.
The Wallingford Fire Department was called to a small grass fire Wednesday evening south of High Lake on 450th Avenue in Emmet county. Fire Chief Jarrod Fischer says a controlled burn in a ditch got out of hand. Firefighters were on the scene about 20 minutes.
High temperatures of near 80 degrees Wednesday pushed the fire danger into the very high category.
