(Spencer)– The Spencer school board Tuesday awarded bids on the high school science addition project.
Superintendent Glenn Lohman says there were no surprises in that the bids were awarded to the apparent low bidders.
The bid for the general contractor was awarded to M & D Construction of Sheldon for 805,950-dollars; the mechanical portion of the project was awarded to Bodholt Brothers of Storm Lake for 314,622-dollars; and the electrical work was awarded to Harve’s Electric of Sanborn for 124,250-dollars.
Lohman says the total bids came in slightly under the 1.4 million dollars that was estimated for the project earlier. A bid on casework still needs to be awarded. It’s estimated to come in somewhere around 200-thousand dollars.
The project will be funded through the district’s School Improvement Local Option Tax and a 500-thousand dollar building construction grant through U-S Senator Tom Harkin.
Construction is to start in mid-May with completion in May of 2005.
The project will consist of six new classrooms housing Physics, Chemistry, Biology and General Science classes along with labs, a greenhouse and updated technology.
