(Estherville)– This year’s Memory Walk, a benefit for the Alzheimer’s Association, will be held for the first time ever in Estherville. It’s scheduled for Saturday, October 14th beginning at the Regional Wellness Center.
Several hundred individual and team walkers from Clay, Dickinson and Emmet counties are expected to participate in the event that raises funds and promotes the latest progress into the ongoing research of Alzheimer’s Disease.
It’s estimated some 1,600 adults over 65 in the four-county area have Alzheimer’s Disease or some other form of memory loss.
Services supported by the Memory Walk include in-home respite care, information and referral, caregiver support, assessment and care planning, family and community education and awareness group meetings.
A benefit dance will be held this coming Saturday evening (Aug. 26th) at the Estherville VFW. Tickets are five dollars each with proceeds going to benefit the walk.
Anyone wanting to join a team, start a team or wanting to walk as an individual should contact Kim Drew at the Alzheimer’s Association. The number is 1-800-272-3900.
