Clay County Wreck Results In Charges Against Juveniles

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A single-vehicle crash this (Monday) morning southeast of Spencer has resulted in charges being filed against two juveniles.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says it was notified of a single-vehicle mishap around 11:20 a.m.

Authorities say a 13-year-old male was driving a 1995 Dodge Caravan westbound on 370th Street about a quarter of-a-mile east of 225th Avenue when he lost control. The van went into the north ditch, rolled and struck a utility pole six feet off the ground.

The driver and a 16-year-old passenger then fled the scene. They were later located in Spencer by police and were taken to Spencer Hospital for treatment of injuries they sustained in the crash.

The driver was charged with failure to maintain control. Both teens were charged with operating without the owner’s consent and no driver’s licenses.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Spencer Police Department and the Spencer Fire Department.
