(Wahpeton)– The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is testing a lighted buoy about three hundred feet off shore of the Lakes Patrol Station at Gull Point State Park on West Lake Okoboji.

Enforcement Officer Gary Owen says a solar-powered light in blinking on the navigational aid. He says if it seems to increase night-time visibility for boaters and seems durable enough to survive the wear and tear, similar lights might be added to 11 other buoys that warn boaters to stay away from the shoreline on the Iowa Great Lakes.
