Car/Motorcycle Collision Sends Three To LRH

(Spirit Lake)– A collision involving a car and a motorcycle Sunday afternoon on Highway nine west of Spirit Lake sent three people to the hospital.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says 74-year-old Richard Schultz of Spirit Lake was driving a 1994 Buick westbound on Highway Nine and was making a left turn onto 210 Avenue when he turned into the path of an eastbound 1991 Kawasaki Motorcycle driven by 52-year-old Gale Odegaard of Ceylon, Minnesota.

Odegaard and a passenger on the motorycle he was operating, Rhonda Odegaard…also of Ceylon…were ejected off the bike and thrown over the top of the car, landing on the pavement. They were taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare, along with Schultz. There was no word on the extent of their injuries.

The Buick driven by Schultz sustained nearly three thousand dollars in damage; the Kawasaki Motorycle driven by Odegaard sustianed more than 3,400-dollars in damage.

Schultz was charged with failure to maintain a safety belt and failure to yield to the right-of-way while making a left turn.

The mishap took place shortly after 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
