Awning Controversy Puts E’Ville Street Project On Hold

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– A major street project in downtown Estherville has been put on hold due to a disagreement between business owners and the city.

City officials say several businesses along South Sixth Street would either have to modify their canopies or get rid of them altogether to accomodate the project. Businessowners expressed opposition to that, siting cost.

The city council sided with the businessowners and voted Tuesday evening to postpone the project indefinitely.

Mayor Lyle Hevern is concerned over the delay, saying the street is in bad shape and needs to be rebuilt very soon.
