Donated Wind Turbine Training Equip. Arrives At ILCC

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– Iowa Lakes Community College Friday took delivery of a special piece of equipment that will be used to train students in its Wind Energy and Turbine Technology program.

A “nacelle”, the turbine that generates electricity, was delivered to the Estherville campus on a large semi trailer flatbed.

The device was unloaded (see photo) near the college. It was mounted on a platform. Instructor Al Zeits says the nacelle will allow students to experience more hands-on learning without requiring a 70 meter climb up the college’s existing tower and turbine, forcing it to be offline.

The nacelle was donated to the college by Vestas, a major manufacturer of wind turbines.
