(Superior)– A head-on collision around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on Highway Nine a mile west of Superior sent two people to the hospital.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says Delores Loewenberg of Spirit Lake was westbound and attempted to pass a vehicle towing a trailer. Authorities say Loewenberg observed oncoming traffic approaching and lost control of her vehicle. She collided with an eastbound vehicle driven by Barbara Golinghorst of Sherburn, Minnesota.
Loewenberg and Golinghorst were taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake. There was no immediate word on the extent of their injuries or condition.
A 2005 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Loewenberg and a 1992 Toyota Camry driven by Golinghorst were both totaled.
Loewenberg was cited for failure to maintain control.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Iowa State Patrol, Spirit Lake Police Department, Superior Fire and Rescue, Terril Ambulance and the Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance.
