(Spencer)– A semi tractor-trailer had a rough time crossing some railroad tracks Thursday behind Graham Tire in Spencer.
Spencer police say James Robinson of Wayne, Nebraska either didn’t see or ignored a sign warning semi drivers not to drive trucks over the tracks in that area due to an elevated grade.
Authorities say Robinson made it over the tracks the first time, but wasn’t so lucky the second time. Police say the semi trailer got hung up on the tracks when Robinson tried to back over them. The trailer got snagged and a hole was punctured in the fuel tank, causing an estimated 90 gallons of diesel fuel to spill onto the ground.
The Spencer Fire Department and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources responded to the scene and cleaned up the spill.
No injuries were reported.
The incident took place shortly after 2:00 p.m. Thursday.
