Cold/Flu Season Approaches

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– Falling leaves and colder temperatures are one sure sign of fall. Another is the start of the cold and flu season.

Mary Dunleavy of Dickinson County Public Health is once again reminding everyone of the importance of getting a flu shot. She says people with chronic disease such as diabetes should get the vaccine, along with those with immuno deficiencies, children, the elderly and those living with someone with a chronic condition.

Dunleavy debunks a common misconception about the shots. She says you can NOT get the flu from a flu shot.

Dunleavy says as of right now it looks like there should be an adequate supply of vaccine this year, although it hasn’t arrive yet. She says Dickinson County Public Health will start scheduling immunizations once it does get here.

Dunleavy adds the importance of getting a flu shot is even greater as concern mounts over the possibility of a pandemic sometime in the future.
