A-G Files Charges In Price Laboratory School Case; Current SL Supt. & Former Director Of Price Lab Not Among Those Charged

November 22, 2014

(Des Moines)– The Iowa Attorney General’s Ofice has filed charges against nine people related to an investigation at the Malcolm Price Laboratory School in Cedar Falls.

Spirit Lake Superintendent David Smith, a former Director at the Price Laboratory School, is NOT among those charged.

The charges stem from an investigation into complaints that records had been tampered with and that the defendants gave false addresses when enrolling their children to get a break on tuition.

The nine defendants, all from the Cedar Falls and Waterloo areas, have been charged with tampering with records…an aggravated misdemeanor.

The Attorney General’s Office got involved after a state audit turned up more than 255-thousand dollars in uncollected fees from July 1st, 2006 through March 31st, 2009.

Smith became Director at the Price Laboratory School in 2004. He resigned from the position on January 20th, 2009 to become Superintendent of the Spirit Lake schools.
