High Speed Chase Results In Numerous Charges

November 22, 2014

(Orleans)– A high speed chase Saturday has resulted in numerous charges against a Spencer man.

Spirit Lake police say it all started shortly before 7:00 a.m. Saturday when they received a report of an individual said to be intoxicated. Upon responding to the location of where the person was said to be, the subject fled in a 1988 Buick LeSabre. Officers managed to catch up with it in the area of Isthmus Park in Orleans. A high speed chase ensued from there, with the vehicle going east/northeast through Orleans and along the east side of Big Spirit Lake on County Road M-56. Speeds were in excess of 100 miles-per-hour at times. The vehicle eventually stopped and the driver, 21-year-old Casey George Leclair of Spencer, fled on foot. He was apprehended a short time later.

Upon investigating, it was determined the vehicle Leclair was driving had been stolen.

Leclair was booked into the Dickinson county jail on charges of operating while intoxicated…fourth offense; eluding; theft in the second degree and assault on a peace officer…all class “D” felonies.

Leclair was also charged with reckless driving and operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent…both aggravated misdemeanors; interference with official acts and two counts of speeding…both simple misdemeanors.

The Spirit Lake Police Department was assisted by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Arnolds Park and Milford Police Departments.
