(Okabena, Mn.)– A fertilizer truck collided with a power pole this (Friday) afternoon in southwest Minnesota, knocking out power to most of the region, including the Iowa Great Lakes.
Ryan Stensland of Alliant Energy tells KUOO news it happened around 12:20 p.m. on Jackson County Road 34 about three and-a-half miles west of Highway 86. Stensland says a fertilizer truck collided with a pole, knocking a major transmission line onto some smaller distribution lines.
It knocked out power to most of the lakes area, affecting some 3,357 customers of Alliant Energy in Spirit Lake and Okoboji. Power was also knocked out to some rural areas near Estherville and Terril.
Power was restored to most areas within about 40 minutes or so as crews worked to re-route it.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office hadn’t released details into the mishap as of late this (Fri.) afternoon, which also resulted in a fire.
