Fire Damages Utility Shed

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A utility shed was damaged by fire this (Friday) afternoon just northeast of Spirit Lake.

Spirit Lake Fire Chief David Kollasch tells KUOO news firefighters were called to 1510 252nd Avenue behind Great Lakes Vending shortly after 2:00 p.m.

Kollasch some neighbors across the road had been burning some leaves when a gust of wind blew some burning leaves across the road, starting leaves there on fire. The fire quickly spread to the shed, burning a wall. Kollasch says a wheel barrow, snowblower and some other items were in the shed. A damage estimate wasn’t immediately available.

No injuries were reported.

The Spirit Lake Fire Department was on the scene about 45 minutes.

Kollasch reminds everyone it’s illegal to burn in the city of Spirit Lake. Kollasch says those who burn elsewhere should never leave a fire unattended, and he says you shouldn’t burn when the wind is blowing.
