November 22, 2014

(Undated)– A ceremony to say goodbye to 50 Iowa Army National Guard soldiers has been scheduled for Sunday.

The soldiers have been ordered to active duty from various Iowa units to support the war in Afghanistan.

The event is set for 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Iowa National Guard Readiness Center in Boone.

Some of the soldiers being activated are from units in northwest Iowa. They’re located in Algona, Estherville, Fort Dodge and Storm Lake.

The soldiers will receive additional training at Fort Riley, Kansas before leaving for Afghanistan, where they will provide advanced combat training to the Afghan National Army.

The activation is for 18 months.
