Gov. Culver Accepts Bedell’s Resignation From Board Of Regents

November 22, 2014

(Cedar Rapids)– Governor Chet Culver has accepted the resignation of Tom Bedell of Spirit Lake from the Board of Regents.

It comes more than a month after Bedell announced he was leaving the post amid a stalled University of Iowa Presidential search that has fueled animosity between regents and school staff.

Bedell announced his resignation December 14th, when Tom Vilsack was still Governor. Bedell says he wanted his resignation to take effect after Culver took office so the new Governor could pick his replacement.

In an interview at the time with KUOO news, Bedell told us he hoped his resignation would help Culver set an education agenda and make a mark on the board through new appointments.

A spokesman for the Governor says Culver will likely name Bedell’s replacement before announcing picks for three other seats that open in the spring on the nine-member Board of Regents.
